I would like to know more about the historical aspect of John the Baptist’s complaint– Herod and Herodias’ marriage was incestuous and therefore arayot. Was John trying to rally a crowd to stone them and, if so, how seriously would common people have taken John’s complaint about Herod’s sin vis a vis God’s wrath upon Israel?
